TV’s heartthrob Gurmeet Choudhary a.k.a “Yash” has been spending sleepless nights these days. The devastating earthquake that recently hit the nation has also hit his life. A report on Mid-day.com states that Gurmeet is trying to get his parents and brother to Mumbai. They are stuck in Purnia, Bihar, which was affected by the earthquake. Gurmeet was quoted in the report as saying that his parents are experiencing aftershocks from the past few days and that there is no power supply in the village. He further added that his family has spent nights outside the house.

With his extraordinary good looks, macho physique, strong acting skills and a powerful fan base, Gurmeet Choudhary is touted to be the next big thing. From being Ram on Television’s famous mythological show, Ramayan, Gurmeet will now be seen playing a negative role in Khamoshiyan which is quite different from his regular image. But this journey from being Ram to Raavan has not been a cake walk for Gurmeet. Let’s take a look at his journey and explore some lesser known but interesting facts about this handsome hunk.
Though Gurmeet Choudhary comes from an army background, he always wanted to be an actor. His friends and family used to call him Shashi Kapoor when he was young, probably due to the resemblance. Apparently, this nickname had been given to him by his grandfather who wanted Gurmeet to become an actor. Since then, he is known as ‘Shashi.’ Talking about nicknames, Gurmeet is also called as Patnivrata by his friends as he is deeply in love with his wife Debina. Living up to his nickname, Gurmeet has promised his wife that she would feature in every film he does.

Being a passionate actor Gurmeet started working on his acting skills to fulfill his dream at an early age. But apart from acting, Gurmeet also used to stage plays during his school days. Later on, he took up modelling and bagged the title of ‘Mr Jabalpur.’ This success marked the onset of his bright career in the field of acting. He had also contested for the title of ‘Mr India.’ His first salary was Rs 1,500 that he fetched for featuring in an advertisement.
He shifted to city of dreams, Mumbai, when he was 19 and started his struggle to attain name and fame in the industry. In 2004, he met his love of life Debina at Sahara Bollywood star contest. Both of them fell in love instantly. Debina introduced Gurmeet to the director of her 3D serial Mayavi. He was then offered a negative role in the same serial. The serial was a big hit down South and Gurmeet soon became a familiar face among his fans.

No one can ever forget Gurmeet Choudhary as Lord Ram in the famous mythological show Ramayan. But did you know that Gurmeet bagged this role just because of his eyes. The producer of the show Anand Sagar wanted someone with Kamal-Nayan (Lotus shaped eyes) to play the role of Ram. Gurmeet’s eyes were perfect for the role. To give a more realistic touch to his character Gurmeet grew his hair for one and a half years.
The dedicated actor that he is, Gurmeet prefers to perform his stunts on his own. During his guest performance in the show, Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega, he decided to perform a dangerous fire stunt himself. But unfortunately, his attire caught fire and he had also injured his knee. Despite being in pain Gurmeet completed the performance with grace.

Khamoshiyaan is considered to be his Bollywood debut but very few people know that Gurmeet has been a part of a movie called Cycle Kick earlier. This movie was produced by Subhash Ghai and directed by Shashi Silgudia. He played the role of a protagonist in the film. Later on he also played a small role in movie Koi Apsa featuring Aftab Shivdasani and Anita Hassanandani. He played the role of a college friend of Aftab Shivdasani’s. He has also been a part of many music videos.
